In a bid to improve the lives of veterans across the United Kingdom, the Veterans Mobility Fund was re-launched on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, with funding from the Office of Veteran Affairs UK and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust. The scheme, aimed at providing access to life-changing mobility aids not typically available through the NHS, is set to make a significant impact on the lives of those who have served their country.
Administered by Help for Heroes alongside Blesma, the scheme offers veterans the opportunity to obtain mobility aids such as specialist wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and other essential items to enhance their quality of life. The initiative aims to address mobility issues resulting from injuries sustained during military service, to improve the quality of life for veterans who have given so much during service.
Access to the fund can be made through the Help for Heroes website here, or by contacting the Help for Heroes Northern Ireland Team in Belfast by telephone, (07807) 304310 or via Email at SAF.ScotlandandNI@helpforheroes.org.uk.
The Northern Ireland Veterans Commissioner said “We hope that Northern Ireland veterans will be able to take advantage of this initiative to enhance the quality of their lives. If you are a veteran who has been injured in service and experiences mobility issues as a result, please do get in contact. These aids are designed to acknowledge and support the sacrifices made by our veterans, both in Northern Ireland and across the UK”.
The re-launch of the Veterans Mobility Fund signifies a commitment to supporting those who have served their country and provides tangible assistance to improve their daily lives. It stands as a testament to the nation’s gratitude for the service and sacrifices made by veterans.
