UK Armed Forces Veterans Mental Health Study

Many studies are undertaken to help shape and better provide for mental health provision within our society. As Veterans many of us have very niche traumatic experiences that cannot be well communicated to those outside the service community. Therefore having the opportunity to help others understand our experiences through academic studies, can help to shape future provision and services.

Please see below, details about a current study being undertaken by Phd student Lisa Campbell of Glasgow Caledonian University.

Lisa Campbell is a doctorate student at Glasgow Caledonian University on the DPsych Counselling Psychology programme. Currently she is working on the first stages of her research dissertation and is looking to build from previous research she has carried out in a previous qualification.

Lisa is interested in the current mental health and coping strategies of UK Armed Forces veterans who have experienced traumatic events. These traumatic events do not need to have occurred during their time in the Armed Forces. She has created a survey which asks questions about experiences or symptoms an individual currently has, and the ways of coping with these. Participants are not asked to describe any traumatic events.

Participants must be aged 18 or over, resident in the UK, former personnel of the UK Armed Forces, and experienced at least one traumatic event.

It will be an anonymous survey unless someone self identifies and contacts Lisa about removing their responses within the time frame. The survey takes around 15 minutes to complete and is open until Sunday 29th May https://forms.office.com/r/8jzDVJ1eBT

The study has been approved from the university’s School of Health and Life Sciences psychology department, reference code: HLS/PSWAHS/21/199
